2026 Bon Accord Fours KO Final - Report

20 May by Cameron Millar

The first knockout competition - the Fours - reached its conclusion tonight at a sunny Whitehall which saw rinks from Polmuir & Newhills facing off to decide our first competition winners.

The rink line-ups were:

Polmuir - Graeme Snape, Neil Philip, Martyn Orchard & Callum Work
Newhills - Liam Angus, Jamie Herbertson, Kevin Fraser & Kris Cunningham

The Newhills quartet made a great start scoring 3 at the first end however Polmuir replied with a 3 of their own on end 5 to tie the scores up at 5-5 in the 17 end contest.

End 6 saw Newhills regain the lead with a count of 4 and then followed this up with singles on each of the next 2 ends to lead 11-5 after 8 ends. However the Polmuir rink are fighters and scored three consecutive singles to trail 11-8 with 6 ends remaining.

A further single made it 12-8 (5 ends remaining) but Polmuir then scored a two and a three to jump into the lead for the first time 13-12 with only three ends remaining.

End 15, saw several great bowls however with the last bowls of the end, Newhills skip Kris Cunningham trailed the jack into the ditch to reverse from 1 down to 1 up and therefore level the score at 13-13.

End 16, saw more great bowls with Newhills scoring another single to lead 14-13 going into the last end.

Onto the last end and it was Newhills that got in first to hold the shot and despite a number of close attempts to win the end, it was the Newhills quartet that score one and win the match 15-13!

A great match and well done to all eight players for a great game that could have gone either way!
