Special Extra End of Season Review

30 Sep by Cameron Millar

One last very special end of season review!

In 2021, the Bon Accord BA introduced a team Top 5 competition as a regular club knockout competition to run alongside the more long standing Top 10.

The prize for the winners would be representing the Bon Accord BA in the following season’s Scottish Top 5 – Andrew D MacKellar Inter County Top 5.

The first winners were Kittybrewster & Woodside in 2021, Westhill in 2022, Kittybrewster & Woodside again in 2023, Whitehall in 2024 and Westhill again this season.

As the 2024 winners, Whitehall BC had the honours on the national stage.

In the 1st round, Whitehall travelled to Windygates BC in Fife with a line-up of Scott Murray, Zander Main, Kevin Pirie, Kevin Philip and Andrew Thomson. Whitehall won 3-1 with wins coming from Scott, Zander and Kevin Pirie to progress to the quarter finals and a home draw against Arbroath BC who had reached the last 4 in 2024.

The quarter final was played on 19th August and Whitehall went with the same squad as the previous round. This match would go to the wire! Arbroath struck first with Darren Burnett defeating Kevin Philip. Scott Murray evened the match score up however Andrew Thomson lost to Andy Fuyre to leave Arbroath requiring one more win for victory. Soon afterwards, Zander Main level the match score at 2-2, so attention turned to Kevin Pirie v Malcolm Anderson and it was Kevin who won the match to send Whitehall into the final stages to be played at Sighthill BC in Edinburgh.

The semi-finals and final were played on 14 September, and Whitehall’s semi-final opponents were Clackmannan BC. Wins in the first 3 matches for Andrew Thomson, Kevin Pirie and Zander Main saw Whitehall ease through to the final v Dumbuck BC from Dumbartonshire in the afternoon’s final.

Yet again, the Whitehall ‘famous five’ won the first three matches this time by Zander, Andrew and Kevin Philip to secure the National title for the first time and the first time by a Bon Accord affiliated club.

An unbelievable and fantastic achievement by the guys, the club and your supporters!!
Congratulations from the Bon Accord Committee and all your fellow affiliated clubs!
