2025 Finals Day (part 2)

7 Sep by Cameron Millar

After the excitement of the two singles matches, we now looked forward to the Top 10 Sponsored by Mattioli Woods , where hosts Polmuir had won through for their first appearance in over 15 years! Facing them were favourites Kittybrewster & Woodside who had defeated Whitehall away in the quarter finals before easing past Northern in the semi-finals.

The line-ups would see Eric Gallan & Callum Work face each other again after their marathon COC final earlier this afternoon. The rest of the line-up was:

Pairs – Jak Miller & Ben Inglis (Kittybrewster) v Mark Burnett & Keith Edment (Polmuir)
Triples – Mike Boyne, Ronnie Gill & Roy Henry (Kittybrewster) v Graeme Snape, Neil Philip & Martyn Orchard (Polmuir)
Fours – Keith Morrison, Billy Grant, Neil Anderson & Derek McNicol (Kittybrewster) v Mark Smith, John Stephen, Jim Cameron & Willie Stewart (Polmuir)

In the singles, it was Eric who lead from the start however Callum stayed in touch and after counting a full-house of 4 on the 10th end Eric’s lead was a single shot at 12-11. However, Eric then romped to secure the first 2 points with a run of 3, 2, 1 and 3 to win 21-11.

In the Pairs, Polmuir moved into an early 4-1 lead however Kittybrewster responded with scores of 1,1,2 and 4 to lead 9-4. This became 12-5 after 11 ends. Polmuir scored 4 shots in the next 2 ends to retain a comeback hope thereby trailing 9-12 with 4 ends remaining however the Kittybrewster duo scored a 3 and a single to lead 16-9. The next 2 points was secured shortly afterwards with a 16-13 win.

The next match to finish was the fours and in this game, the result was virtually known after the first 7 ends. Kittybrewster won 6 of the first 7 ends to storm into a 12-1 lead. However Polmuir replied with a four but that seemed to annoy the Kittybrewster rink as they responded with counts of 4,5 and 5 to lead 26-5! With the game and overall match effectively over the final ends were played out with Kittybrewster winning 35-8.

In the Triples, this match was tight throughout with never more than 2 shots separating the teams until the penultimate end and the lead changing on numerous occasions. Polmuir won the 11th, 12, 13th and 14th ends to lead 13-9 playing the last and held on for a consolation win 13-12.

Final Score – Kittybrewster & Woodside 6 points, Polmuir 2 points

Following a welcome and excellent high tea from the Polmuir members, the following season presentations were made:

The Bon Accord would like to thank Polmuir BC for being fantastic hosts this week. For providing markers earlier in the week, rink scoreboard markers, Michael Watt on the big scoreboard each evening and this afternoon, the bar staff and kitchen staff especially for today.

The season is not quite over, as we still have our Under 17 Singles sponsored by our own Match Secretary Cameron Millar, which takes place next Sunday 14th September 12 noon at Newhills Bowling Club and we hope there will be a good turnout of spectators to support our future champions!

Many thanks to all our clubs for their support, making greens, rinks & premises available to host our various competitions and also to your members for taking part in the competitions. We can only be a success with the clubs and club membership support.
