2025 Bon Accord Champion of Champions Singles Sponsored by Slaters - Semi Finals Review

5 Sep by Cameron Millar

Tonight saw the last four go to the green attempting to reach the final of the 2025 Bon Accord Champion of Champions Singles – a situation that not many players have achieved!

The line-up was:

Eric Gallan (Kitybrewster & Woodside) v Jeff Killman (Newhills) and
Callum Work (Polmuir) v Kevin Pirie (Whitehall)

In the first match, twice runner-up Eric made the better start scoring counts of 4,2 and 3 in the first end to lead 11-4. However, Jeff has performed brilliantly this week and then started show what he could do by winning the next 4 ends to reduce the deficit to 11-9. Eric responded with consecutive doubles to lead 15-9 but back came Jeff to be only 2 behind at 15-13. Eric then picked up fours shots over the next three ends to lead 19-14 to be on the verge of making his 3rd final. But Jeff had other ideas and scored single son each of the next 3 ends to trail 19-17. So both players were only 1 end away from victory! Eric gained a single at end 23 to lead 20-17 and then on end 24 Eric reached the winning line with another single to secure the victory 21-17! A great match from both players!

In the second semi-final, local favourite Callum Work was hoping to go one better than last year where he agonisingly lost in the semi-final, and he edged the opening ends to lead 7-5 after 9 ends. In end 10, Kevin scored a 3 and then picked up a single to lead 9-7 however Callum responded with a 2 of his own to level the game at 9-9. Kevin then scored singles at the next 4 ends to lead 13-9. However Callum then responded winning the next 5 ends to lead 18-13. Each player won one of the next two ends each to leave Callum one shot from victory at 20-14. Kevin was not giving up and won the next 2 ends to only trail 20-17 . We were now into the 26th end, and it was Callum that secured the shot he required to win 21-17 and reach his first COC final! Another fantastic match!

This season’s COC competition to date has been very competitive, with many close matches and great bowls played and tonight was right up there!

Congratulations to Eric & Callum and commiserations to Jeff and Kevin.

So we now have our finalists – Eric Gallan v Callum Work – and this should be a great match.

The final gets underway on Sunday (7th September) on our finals day starting at 12 noon.
