1 Jun by Cameron Millar

Bon Accord faced Perthshire in a top of the table clash today. Both teams qualified for the quarter finals last year and this year, were the remaining North Section teams with 100% records after the first two rounds of matches.

There had been overnight rain however the sun was shining as the match got underway.

The rink draws produced the following line-ups (Bon Accord names first followed by Perthshire skips):

Rink 1 – Ellis Adie, Keith Morrison, Ross Stewart & Jak Miller v Liam Wilson
Rink 2 – Craig Burnett, Willie Stewart, Zander Main & Eric Gallan v Iain Miller
Rink 3 – Ben Inglis, Zak Morrison, Neil Anderson & Andrew Thomson v Mark Biondi
Rink 4 – Callum Reid, Billy Grant, Martyn Orchard & Roy Henry v Peter Hosie
Rink 5 – Jim Shea, Steve Buchanan, Kevin Harper & Callum Work v Jordan Baptie
Rink 6 – Owen Jack, Colin Clark, David Cobban-Shaw & Paul Hay v Scott Pirie

A notable highlight of the match was the 50th cap for Andrew Thomson – congratulations to the Hawk!!

It was Bon Accord who were quick off the mark on the 1st end of each of the rinks as 11 shots were put on the board including 3’s from Jak Miller & Paul Hay’s rink and a four count for Eric Gallan!

Bon Accord kept their side of the scoreboard ticking over to lead after 5 ends played across all rinks by 28-23. Rink scores were:

Jak Miller 4-4 level
Eric Gallan 6-3 up
Andrew Thomson 6-5 up
Roy Henry 7-0 up
Callum Work 0-7 down
Paul Hay 5-4 up

Into quarter 2 and Bon Accord continued to apply pressure to their opponents and this saw Bon Accord winning 20 of the 30 ends played to stretch their lead to 27 shots at 64-37. Jak Miller and Eric Gallan’s rinks both scored four counts during this period. The rink scores were:

Jak Miller 11-7 up
Eric Gallan 15-4 up
Andrew Thomson 9-8 up
Roy Henry 12-1 up
Callum Work 4-10 down
Paul Hay 13-7 up

Into the 3rd quarter and it was Perthshire starting to fight back, however Bon Accord held firm as the overall lead after 15 ends was 25 shots up at 90-65. During this period Perthshire’s Liam Wilson’s rink added 10 shots v Jak Miller on rink 1 to edge in front. The rink score now showed as follows:

Jak Miller 16-17 down
Eric Gallan 17-10 up
Andrew Thomson 15-12 up
Roy Henry 18-4 up
Callum Work 8-12 down
Paul Hay 16-10 up

Into the final quarter, and in our previous two matches Bon Accord have been in similar positions and managed both matches for victory and therefore were confident of doing the same.

Over ends 16-18, neither side dominated as Bon Accord scored 13 shots to Perthshire’s 12 (Bon Accord led 103-77).

With a lead of 26 shots with 18 ends remaining, something special was required by Perthshire to pull out a win……. however Bon Accord had different ideas as they scored counts of 4 on Jak Miller’s, Eric Gallan’s and Andrew Thomson’s rink to see out the overall victory by 124-92.

The final rink scores were:

Jak Miller 22, Liam Wilson 23
Eric Gallan 22, Iain Miller 14
Andrew Thomson 23, Mark Biondi 14
Roy Henry 22, Peter Hosie 13
Callum Work 14, Jordan Baptie 16
Paul Hay 21, Scott Pirie 12

Another 2 points in the bag for Bon Accord as we maintain our 100% record and move 2 points clear in the section approaching the halfway mark of the North Section.

At the post match speeches, Bon Accord President John Miller presented Andrew with his 50th cap badge and also 3 caps presentations to Willie Stewart and Owen Jack. The other 3 cap presentations to Zak Morrison, Callum Reid and Colin Clark will take place later.
