Under 25 North Section League 2025 - Bon Accord v Grampian - Match Report - 4th May 2025

4 May by Cameron Millar

The Bon Accord under 25 team hosted their 1st Under 25 North Section league game of the season today versus Grampian at Kittybrewster and Woodside Bowling Club. What a day, what a result. You make us all feel so proud.

I think everyone in the team deserves a special mention today as you proved what a tenacious and resilient team you are. You were all absolutely fantastic today. After 13 ends you were 60-79 behind and you managed to claw back a result. BRILLIANT and WELL DONE.

The weather was temperamental, when the sun was out it was fine and when it was not it was very cold.

Grampian got off to a fantastic start. After 5 ends of play Grampian were 37-18 up with some superb bowling coming from David Craib’s rink who had held Bon Accord to 0 points. On rink 1 Zac was 1 behind at 3-4, on rink 3 Ellis held a 1 shot advantage, on rink 4 Fraser was 1-6 down, on rink 5 John was trailing 4-6 and Owen was up 7-4 on rink 6.

The gap of 19 slightly reduced by end 10 to 44 – 62, This was due to Owen and John’s rinks winning 8 out the 10 possible ends. The other rinks were holding it closer with 13 out of the 30 ends played producing counts of 1.

By end 15 Bon Accord had reduced the deficit to 79 – 85. Zac’s rink had produced some sensational bowls and won the mini session 8-4, Ross’s rink had pulled it back to 9-20 winning the 5 end 6-3, Ellis’s rink won the session 5-3 and were 12-13, Fraser had a good session and were 13-7 down, John’s rink won the session 7-2 and were 15-8 up and Owen was in a tough match with David Maver and was losing 12-14.

Going into the last 6 ends Bon Accord still had a chance but needed to pull out all the stops to try and close the gap and hopefully take a lead. Ross Cowie managed to secure an 8-3 win in this session with a fantastic 5 on his rink’s last end (well done rink 2, considering they had been 0-15 down this was an excellent show or perseverance). Fraser’s rink also managed to secure a 5-3 win on the last five ends with help from a brilliant 4 on end 19. John’s rink won 4 out of the last 5 ends securing a 25-11 victory over Lee Trotter’s rink (well done to all 4 of you, you were brilliant). Last but not least Owen’s rink won the last 5 end 5-3.

This secured the Bon Accord’s first U25 victory of the season 113-111.

Well done to everyone today. You have made the Bon Accord Bowling Association so proud of you all. You beat a much older and experienced team today. I really, really hope you enjoyed the experience and hope you can make it 2 out of 2 at Abergeldie on the 18th May.

If anyone that played is not able to make the 18th of May game please let me know asap. I will be posting the team in the next 2 days as unfortunately I will not be able to attend the next game.

Good luck to Grampian in their last league game of the season against Angus / Dundee.

A big thank you to Kittybrewster and Woodside Bowling Club for hosting the game and to Umpires Lorraine and Raymond. It was also great to see so many supporters attend today’s game. Thank you and much appreciated.

Come on the Bon Accord.

Can’t wait and best of luck team.

Thanks

Derek
