2024 Bon Accord Senior Singles KO Sponsored by Mike Reid - Day 3 (Semi-Finals and Final)

Today saw the conclusion of the Bon Accord Senior Singles KO competition which has been hosted this week by Abergeldie BC.

The competition is played over best of three sets with sets one and two played over 6 ends and the tiebreak third set if required, played over 3 ends.

The two semi-finals saw representation from three clubs – Kittybrewster with two players, Newhills and Polmuir.

In the top half of the draw, Charlie Keith (Kittybrewster) faced Nicol Brown (Newhills). In set one, Nicol led 3-2 after 3 ends and then 5-4 going into the last end, however Charlie scored two shots to edge the set 6-5. Into the second set Charlie won three of the first four ends to lead 6-2 with only two ends remaining however Nicol scored two shots to take the set ino the last end, needing a three to force the tiebreak set. However Nicol could only manage two shots to tie the score at 6-6, which meant Charlie advanced advanced to the final by 1.5 – 0.5.

The other semi-final pitted Ken Reid (Kittybrewster) v Raymond Davidson (Polmuir). In set one, it was Raymond who started better winning three of the first four ends to lead 5-1. Ken scored a single in end five and could only manage a further single on the last end of the set. Set one to Raymond by 5-3. Onto set two and Ken scored twos on each of the first two ends to lead 4-0. Raymond responded winning the next three ends to lead 5-4 going into the last end, so Ken required to score two or more shots to force the tiebreak set. On he last end, Ken secured two shots to win the second set 6-5. Into the tiebreak set, Ken won the first end, however Raymond won the second end, so the natch and a place in the final came down to a one end shootout which went the way of Ken, to set-up n all Kittybrewster final.

The final:
Set one – Ken started the better racing into a 4-0 lad after three ends. On end four Charlie scored a count of three and followed this up with a double on end five to lead 5-4 going into the last end. It was Charlie who won the last end with a single to win the set 6-4.

Set two – after the first three ends Charlie led 3-2, but end four was to prove decisive as Charlie scored a full house four shots to lead 7-2 with only two ends remaining. Ken need to win the next end and score two shots to take the set to the last end, however Charlie scored a single to win the set 8-2 and therefore the title of 2024 Bon Accord Senior Singles Champion.
