2019 Bon Accord Under 17 Singles - Review

8 Sep 2019 by Cameron Millar

The 2019 Bon Accord Under 17 Singles took place at Polmuir BC today in great weather.

Our 10 entrants were split into two sections with the top two in each section qualifying for the semi-finals.

In section A (red section), Whitehall’s Owen Jack was the dominant player winning all four of his games to win the section. The runner-up position in the section went down to the last round of games with three players in contention. Brooke Hayworth (Seafield) secured second place with a win in her last game.

In section B (blue section), the holder, Zak Morrison (Newhills) suffered a surprise defeat in his first game against Ellis Adie (Whitehall), however Zak won his remaining three games. In the last round of games, Ellis secured the win he required to join Zak in the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, Owen faced up to Ellis and secured a comfortable win. Zak used his experience to pull away in the second half of his game with Brooke to secure his place in the final.

Onto the final and it was Owen that made the better start moving 6-0 up but Zak pulled it back to 6-5 soon after. Owen won the next five ends to lead 12-5 before Zak pulled it back to 13-8. However, Owen won five of the next six ends to win his first Bon Accord Under 17 title by a score of 21-9 in a high quality final.

Congratulations to Owen and commiserations to Zak and well done to all the players who took part in the competition.

Thanks also our umpire Graham Senff and to all the markers.

A big thank you to our sponsor, Gordon Brown.

And finally a huge thank you to all at Polmuir for your excellent hospitality and to all the parents and spectators who came along to support our juniors!
