Bon Accord were hosts for today’s match against Perthshire, at a sunny Woodend in another top of the table clash. Bon Accord were looking to secure the 2 points available to sit on the verge of qualifying for the knockout stages for the second consecutive year.

The Bon Accord team had a late change in Stephen Thomson’s rink with Neil Anderson withdrawing for family reasons being replaced by Kevin Pirie.

Bon Accord made another quick start going into an early 22-12 lead after three ends played across all six rinks, with Alan McKay and Roy Henry rinks scoring a six and a five respectively.

Alan McKay 6, Gary Kean 7
Stephen Thomson 5, Jordan Baptie 3
Andrew Thomson 5, Ian Miller 2
Eric Gallan 6, Ron Anderson 5

Into the last quarter and Bon Accord continued their charge to take the outright lead of the North section with one round of games left and of course retaining the North section trophy!

Eric Gallan’s rink scored a six on end 16 and repeated this On the last end! The remaining questions were could the 150 shots for be achieved again and could all six rinks win?

First finished was Kevin Harper with a resounding 31-8 win. Following shortly afterwards were victories for Roy Henry, Eric Gallan and Andrew Thomson. Alan McKay lost a two on the last end to draw and last off was Stephen Thomson’s rink, courtesy of two burnt ends with a three shot win.

Another excellent win for the Bon Accord by 151-88.

The final individual rink scores were

Roy Henry 20, Robert Fairlie 19
Alan McKay 23, Gary Kean 23
Stephen Thomson 22, Jordan Baptie 19
Andrew Thomson 24, Ian Miller 7
Eric Gallan 31, Ron Anderson 12
Kevin Harper 31, David Hendry 8

There is now one game remaining in the North section and we have all but qualified given the superior shot difference we have over A&K and Perthshire who sit two points behind us in the table.

We now move forward to next week when we travel to Dundee to face City of Dundee next Saturday 22nd June at 2pm in another important game.

A huge thanks to the support today from reserves, officials and spectators, which benefits the players.

Also a big thanks to everyone at Woodend for a great day and being an excellent host.

Until next week – c’mon the Bon Accord!!
