Tonight’s final of the Bon Accord Fours Knockout will be remembered as one of the best finals and tense finishes played in recent years.

The final was between Roy Henry’s Kittybrewster and Martyn Orchard’s Polmuir rinks.

Throughout the 17 end match only singles and two’s were scored and there was never more than 4 shots between the teams.

It was Kittybrewster who made the best start winning the first two ends to go 3-0 up. Polmuir replied winning the next 5 ends to lead 7-3.

Then it was Kittybrewster’s turn and by the completion of end 12, the match score was all square at 8-8.

Polmuir won ends 13 and 14 to go 11-8 up with only three ends left. Kittybrewster scored singles on the next two ends to pull back to 11-10 in favour of Polmuir moving into the last end.

Onto the last end –
Polmuir lead Doug Raeburn had a chalker and Polmuir lay the shot after the first 4 bowls.

Neil Warren the Kittybrewster second then lay the shot after the seconds had delivered all their bowls.

Brian Dingle, the Polmuir third then drew the shot to give Polmuir the advantage with only the skips bowls remaining.

Roy Henry was tight with his first bowl – Martyn Orchard no change after his first bowl – advantage still with Polmuir with only two bowls left. Roy’s last bowl – a result with Kittybrewster lying two shots and the match with one bowl to come…….. Martyn misses and Kittybrewster win 12-11.

It was a fantastic match played in difficult weather conditions and no-one really deserved to lose.
