Bon Accord Under 17 Singles KO - Report

9 SEP 2018 | BY CAMERON MILLAR

The last Bon Accord event was held in the sunshine at Newhills today with 10 of our promising juniors taking part in the U17 Singles Sponsored By Gordon Brown.

Stage 1 was three groups with the winners and best runner-up qualifying for the semi-finals. The group winners were Kieran Craigen (Woodend), Zak Morrison (Newhills) and Kyle Mackie (Abergeldie) with the best runner-up being Kris Taylor (Newhills).

The semi-final draw saw an all Newhills tie with Zak and Kris and Kireran playing Kyle.

Zak and Kieran won through to the final.

The final was played in excellent spirit with both players applauding each others great bowls during the match.

There was nothing in the score early on with both players matching each other. At 6-5 up, Zak scored 9 shots on four of the next five ends to lead 15-6. Kieran then scored a maximum 4 to get back to 10-15. However, Zak responded by scoring 2s on the next three ends to win 21-10 and win the trophy for the first time.

Final score: Zak Morrison 21, Kieran Craigen 10

Many thanks to all the members at Newhills BC who helped today with marking, catering, the bar and the green.

Also thanks to Mike Neville who umpired and also to Graham Low (the Bob Accord Jnr Vice President) who marked the final and presented the prizes.

Thanks to all the players who took part and contributed to an excellent afternoon of bowling.

Finally, thanks to our Sponsor Gordon Brown who unfortunately couldn’t attend today’s event.
