Bon Accord Finals Day 2018

Another excellent Bon accord Finals Day was held today at Abergeldie Bowling Club.

Kicking things off were the Champion of Champions Singles and Under 25 Singles Finals, both sponsored by Slaters Menswear.

In the Champion of Champions Singles, Neil McIntosh (Northern) was up against Alan McKay (Westhill). Both players are former winners of this competition and it was Neil who started better forging into 12-3 lead. As hard as Alan tried to claw back, Neil kept the pressure on and played several telling bowls especially with his last bowl. Neil kept the pressure on and moved to 18-3 before Alan scored again. Alan picked up another 5 shots before Neil closed the match out with an excellent 21-8 win to capture the title for the 3rd time.

The Under 25 singles final pitted two of the County’s most excellent young talent with Ronald McDougall (Westhill) taking on Jak Miller of Kittybrewster. It was Jak who made the better start racing into a 10-2 lead. Soon after Jak extended this to 17-2 and was within the finish line of a commanding win. However Ronald had other ideas pulling back to 17-9. However Jak was not to be denied and secured the four shots he needed winning by 21-11.

Next up was the Top 10 final between Kittybrewster and Woodend.

The singles pitted Neil Warren (Kittybrewster) against Rory Thomson (Woodend) and the first half of their match was close with nothing between them. Rory then moved into a 19-13 lead but back came Neil to within two at 20-18 before Rory claimed the shot need to win 21-18 and claim the first 2 points in favour of Woodend.

The Pairs pitted Billy Grant & Keith Morrison (Kittybrewster) v Bob Graham & Neil Anderson (Woodend). The Kitty pairs got off to an excellent start moving into a 9-3 lead. They were pulled back to 9-7 and 13-10 before moving further ahead to 17-10 with three ends to go. However, Woodend claimed back-to-back 3’s to go into the last end 17-16 down. The Kitty pair got in first on the final end and claimed 2 shots to win 19-16.

In the Triples Kitty raced into a 7-0 lead but then lost a 6. It was then nip and tuck and Woodend tied the game at 11-11 after 11 ends. The next two ends saw Kitty win singles to go 13-11 up with 2 ends to go. The 14th end was the decisive end in this match as Kitty built the head and got a game winning 6 shots. The final score was Kitty 19, Woodend 12.

In the Fours, Kitty edged in front 7-5 after 7 ends and at end 8 got a crucial 5 to move 12-5 up. Woodend got it back to 13-8, but Kitty won the next 3 ends and picked up 7 shots to lead 20-8. There was no way back for the Woodend four and Kitty comfortably ran out 24-11 winners.

So Kitty won the match 6-2 and will now represent the Bon Accord in the 2019 National Top 10 championship and we wish them all the best when the time comes.

Finally, a huge thank you to Abergeldie BC for your help both on and off the green this week as well as today. You were a 1st class host and did your Club proud.
