Sunday 30th July 2017 saw the SYBA (Under 17) National Championships take place at Ayr.
The Bon Accord region representatives were:
Singles – Emma Reid (Whitehall)
Pairs – Owen Jack and Fraser Lamber (Whitehall) and
Triples – Amy Scott, Lauren Roddie & Andrew Scott (Stonehaven)
The format was four sections of 6 competitors with 5 group games to be played. The section winners qualified for the semi-finals and then knock-out from there on.
In the Triples, our Stonehaven trio won their opening game, but then fell to a defeat in the 2nd game. A win in game three kept their qualification hopes alive however 2 further defeats resulted in non-qualification.
In the singles, Emma started strongly winning her first 3 games which included a stirring comeback from 0-8 down to win against last year’s Scottish National Under 25 singles champion! Game 4 resulted in a narrow 3 shot defeat however Emma recovered to win her last game and finish equal 1st in her section on points. So it went to shot difference which saw Emma lose out on top spot by only 2 shots – +26 was not quite enough!
In the pairs, Owen and Fraser quietly went about their business and clocked up win after win in their section and finished top with a 100% record. In the semi-final they won without conceding a shot and in the final they recorded a fantastic 6-5 victory to become the Pairs Scottish Champions!!!
An unbelievable performance and a second national title for the North East this week!
Well done to all 6 players who represented the Bon Accord region so superbly today and throughout the season.
